Mr. Brian Gorlick

Brian Gorlick was appointed Deputy Representative (Protection) in Malaysia in April 2015. Prior to his assignment in Malaysia, he served for six years as the first Chief of the UN Office of Staff Legal Assistance (OSLA).


Brian joined UNHCR in 1991 and has served in Turkey, India, Sweden, New York, and the Department of International Protection at Headquarters in Geneva. Prior to joining the United Nations, he worked as legal counsel in the areas of immigration and refugee law, administrative law and criminal defense in Toronto.

 

Brian holds degrees from the University of Winnipeg (BA), York University (MA), Osgoode Hall Law School (JD), and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LLM, with distinction). He is also a member of the Ontario Bar.

 

Brian is Policy Editor of the International Journal of Refugee Law (Oxford University Press) and has published and lectured on international human rights law and refugee protection, immigration and national security, gender rights, and administration of justice in the United Nations.
